Does my friend need the app for me to track an IOU?
No. PayMeLater is your own private ledger — you can log what anyone owes you (or what you owe them) without them installing anything. If they join later, the shared bills that name them are waiting, and from then on you both see the same record, kept in sync.
Can I track IOUs in different currencies?
Yes. Type an amount in any currency and it converts at that day’s live rate. The rate and date are saved with the IOU, so the record stays honest.
